Description

The Clery Act is a federal law requiring colleges & universities to collect campus crime data and share that information with the public

The University Clery Compliance Office is responsible for ensuring the University of Minnesota is in compliance with this important law by ensuring the complete and accurate collection of crime data and the distribution to this information to the public.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is produced each year. This document contains crime statistics three years of crime statistics for reported crimes which occurred on within a specific geographic area, known as campus "Clery Geography."

In addition to crime statistics, the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes a wealth of helpful information. The report details how to report crimes occurring on campus; how to report the occurrence of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking; and what to expect when a report of these crimes is made to the University of Minnesota Police Department or to other officials at the University of Minnesota. 

SAFE U Advisory Notification

The Clery Act requires that the University give timely warning to the campus community for reported Clery Act crimes, occurring within campus Clery Geography that is determined to pose a serious or ongoing threat to the campus community. The University of Minnesota complies with this requirement by issuing SAFE U Advisory Notifications. SAFE U Advisory Notifications inform that campus community of a the type of crime that occurred, when the crime occurred, and the location the crime occurred. SAFE U Advisory Notifications are intended to help members of the campus community be informed about crime and to help prevent the occurrences of similar crimes.

In most cases, a SAFE U Advisory will not be sent for crimes occurring outside of the University's Clery Geography.

SAFE U Emergency Notification

The Clery Act requires the University to immediately notify the campus community of a significant emergency or dangerous situation that poses an imminent threat to the health and safety of campus. The University complies with this requirement by issuing SAFE U Emergency Notifications to inform the campus community of the dangerous condition and immediate steps to take to help ensure safety.

Daily Crime Log

The University of Minnesota Police Department maintains a Daily Crime Log. This log is a record of all crimes reported to UMPD, occurring within the campus Clery Geography.
